From The Editor
Katy Terrega
=========================
Hello all, hope you had a lovely and romantic Valentine's Day.
Around here our V-Day is not terrible romantic (but fun, nonetheless) and my daughter at age thirteen was kind of disappointed in us. She helped me put together a pretty little tableau of gifts and sentiments for my husband (which he always does for me, as well, and we do for the kids) and couldn't believe we weren't going to have a romantic dinner together or at least some candlelight or champagne or something! Personally, after one dinner out on Valentine's Day many years ago, I gave up; it was horrendously crowded and not a lot of fun. I'll stick to the easy, more day to day romantic stuff, thank you :)
My big news this issue is that I finally got my new site up! Yes, the one I've been hinting about for months now. It's called...drum roll please... The-Write-Resume.com and it's a web-design service that features online resumes for writers. It's a great way to display clips to prospective editors and I've found my own resume sites (I have one for sex-writing and one for my more mainstream writing) invaluable when I'm querying, especially online; I simply write my query and point the editor to my clips to peruse at his or her leisure. I wanted to offer the same service to other writers but it was also important to me that the sites be both professional-looking and affordable (especially since we struggling writers are not always rolling in the dough.) Hopefully I've succeeded on both counts, but maybe you can tell me...
There are still a few bugs to be worked out but it is live and ready for action. Feel free to take a look and let me know what you think of it, and if you're in need of a site, I do, of course, work with those who write sexually themed material :)
Even better, I've got an introductory offer for Sex-Writer.com and newsletter subscribers. If you order a site and let me know you're a subscriber, I'll give you $50 off the final price of the site! You can see all the pricing/content/ordering details onsite at The-Write-Resume.com.
Fairly soon I hope to get started with an affiliate program, which will mean that others can promote the site and get a cut of each sale, so I'll be sure to keep you posted about that, too.
Now onto newsletter business...
We've got a huge issue for you today, including two great articles; one from our old pal Don Vaughan on the strange and bizarre twists that his career has taken and another that's a fun take on pseudonyms
We also have a ton o' Goings On this issue; you guys are really ratcheting up the acceptances lately! In addition, the Sex-Writer.com updates are done, we've got some Market News and four excellent Market Listings, plus Kevin gives us a great review of "At the Viceroy" by Ezwriter. I think that's it...
If you've emailed me in the last four weeks or so and I haven't responded, please be patient! I've been working pretty much non-stop on the The-Write-Resume site but now that it's live, I just have to finish up on Sex-Writer.com and the newsletter and then it will be time to work my way through my very full inbox. If you still haven't heard from me in a week or so, however, feel free to pester me :)
Take care and, as usual, please keep in touch! (And let me know what you think of the new site if you get a chance!)

--- Enjoy the Ride ---
--- By Donald Vaughan ---
====================================
You never know where sex writing is going to take you. Just a few weeks ago, for example, I found myself standing in front of a group of total strangers animatedly discussing the therapeutic benefits of erotica and my own personal love affair with all things porno. The venue? My local Adam & Eve retail store.
Don’t worry, I wasn’t alone. At my side was my wife Nanette who, though not a professional writer of sex or anything else, was more than eager to share the female perspective on the subject at hand. I was wise to bring her, too, because our audience was the very definition of eclectic: young couples, older couples, lesbian couples, lonely old men. You name it, they were there, hooked on our every word, eager to begin their own love affair with smut.
This particular speaking gig was the result of an article I had recently published in Penthouse Forum on the therapeutic benefits of porn. In it I quoted a number of well-known and very respected sex therapists who routinely prescribe commercial erotica to couples in need. Apparently the article made the rounds through the Adam & Eve offices until it reached the desk of the guy in charge of the retail division. He gave me a call, asked me if I wanted to speak on the same subject, and a deal was struck. Nan and I received no money for our lecture, though we did get a $100 gift certificate, which we blew on a couple of videotapes, a nifty new vibrator and some apple-flavored lube.
The Adam & Eve gig is just one of many fun yet bizarre situations in which I’ve found myself as a result of my nonfiction sex writing. Over the years, I have interviewed porn legend Amber Lynn in the liquor closet of a South Florida strip joint (despite the rumbling, desk-sized ice machine, it was the quietest place in the joint); talked in person and by phone with numerous other porn stars; discussed the joys of anal play over lunch at TGI Friday’s with a woman who had sex with her husband for one of the very first Better Sex videos; donned surgical scrubs to observe penis enlargement surgery up close and chatted up all manner of people on the sexual fringe, including a guy who created remarkably lifelike rubber replicas of women’s feet for fetishists with money to burn.
If I’ve learned anything in my 25-plus years as a professional journalist, it’s that writing is a journey. Sometimes you know in advance where that journey will take you, and sometimes you don’t. But regardless of your destination, enjoy the ride. You’re living a life that thousands of other people only dream about.

Dirt Road: transient tales
Deadline for Submissions: March 15, 2004
Calling all hitch-hikers, train-hoppers, run-aways, wanderers and
adventurers.
I am looking to compile personal accounts of "alternative" low-budget and
long-term travelers for publication in an upcoming anthology. I am
interested in
everything from maintaining health, political involvement, artistic pursuits
and
personal relationships as a transient person, to accounts of touring with
bands
and circuses and carnivals, to stories of summit and conference hopping, to
cross-country bike trips.
I am interested in: touring political and arts projects, trips taken to do
radical direct-action and solidarity work, discussion of borders and
border-crossing, experiences travelling alone and with travel partners,
making
money on the road, eating on the road, decisions regarding keeping "homes"
and
material possessions, squatting, state/police harassment..
I am NOT looking for: "My parents paid for me to go to Europe as a
graduation
present," "The time I went on a youth program to help develop the economy in
a
foreign country," "The time I was paid lots of money to teach English
overseas,"
I am hoping for diversity in contributors and welcome and encourage
submissions
from people who have traveled outside of North America, youth, older
travelers,
people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, ethnic and religious
backgrounds, abilities and class backgrounds. I would also very much like to
hear from travelling parents and families.
I am looking for submissions of: personal narrative, creative non-fiction,
essays, theatrical writing and articles. Submissions of poetry and short
fiction
will be considered but are NOT encouraged. Only previously non-published
work
will be considered, with the exception of work which has been self published
(zines, etc.) and electronically published as their only means of
publication.
Authours can submit as many pieces for consideration as they choose, however
it
is unlikely that more than one piece by the same authour will be published
in
this anthology. Collaborative pieces will be considered.

sufficient postage, otherwise submissions will not be returned. Please
include a
short bio, your full name (and the name you would like to be published under

Out of Control:
Erotic Wild Rides
Contact: greg@suspectthoughts.com
No Email Submissions
Deadline: March 1, 2004
Editor Greg Wharton is currently seeking gay male erotic short fiction for the anthology project Out of Control: Erotic Wild Rides (STARbooks Press). .
This anthology of hot and wild erotic gay fiction will be about love from the wrong side of the tracks, with the wrong man at the wrong time and the wrong place, of chance meetings that take you places you never dreamed you'd go.
All you wanted was a drink, some conversation and a little attention, perhaps the warmth of another body pressed to yours. But the thought of his hand on your cock overrode the alarm buzzing loudly in your brain. Perhaps you dismissed the fact he had a gun... Or maybe you knew the car was stolen, but he was so handsome... You wanted him more than you have ever wanted anyone, or anything, before. And you couldn't pass up the chance to have him, no matter what it took, where it took you, or what the consequences might be.
Out of Control: Erotic Wild Rides will feature over-the-top tales of a wild evening that turned into several wild days, the blind date turned psychosexual, the perfect lover turned obsessive, crazed and vengeful, road trips full of fast cars and bumpy rides, and lots of beautiful man-on-man, out of control, hardcore sex. The stories in this anthology will be wild, original, imaginative, crazy, sexy, graphic, kinky, and surprising, fulfilling not only some folk's dreams but also a few nightmares. It will be worth the ride.
Stories may be told from any voice or perspective, and in any genre, but of special interest are unpublished darker than normal tales that take us on crazy rides we may not have been on before and won’t soon forget, with strong fully-realized hunky characters that keep us horny long after the story has ended. All aspects of gay male sexuality are welcome: from vanilla to hardcore S/M.
Stories: 1,500 to 7,000 words
Deadline for Submissions: March 1, 2004
Payment: $100 (US) original, $50 (US) reprint, payable upon publication
Rights: First North American Anthology Rights
Email submissions will not be accepted for this project. Manuscripts will not be returned. Do not send SASE. Double-space your story in a standard 12 pt. font. Include a cover letter with short biography and complete contact information including a working email address for all contact.
Submissions should be sent to:

The Logical-Lust 2004 Erotic Flash Challenge!
Deadline: March 14, 2004
Website: Logical-Lust
Guidelines: Guidelines
Contact: contest@logical-lust.com
Flash fiction is the one of the most testing, and challenging forms of
writing. Make the subject erotica and it becomes a real trial!
Logical-Lust hopes to make the Flash Challenge an annual event, so
enter and tell everyone! The more entries, the bigger the prizes!
So, to encourage, entice, and finally celebrate your very high standard
of flashing prowess, here is;
THE LOGICAL-LUST 2004 EROTIC FLASH CHALLENGE!
1st prize; a guaranteed minimum £100! (That's currently around US
$170!)
Runner-up prize; £20, with 3rd, 4th, & 5th prizes of £10 each.
(Amounts are in pounds sterling but will be paid out in appropriate
currency equivalent to the winners.)
And the really good news? The greater the number of entries, the HIGHER
the prize money will go!
Entry Fee - £1.00 for each entry.
Deadline for entries is March 14th 2004, and you may enter as many
times as you wish.
How to enter - Entry fee(s) can be paid through PayPal.com or
MoneyBookers.com to captivatex@aol.com. If you aren't yet registered
with either of those two, it is extremely easy to do so and to send
money in UK pounds (but don't leave it until the last few days). Please
make your payments on the same day as you submit your ntries, as this
will help to confirm validity.
Entries must be in plain text in the body of an email, which must also
contain the following;
A short author bio,
a declaration that you are the author,
and a declaration as to whether the material is original, or published
and submitted with permission.
Send entries to contest@logical-lust.com
N.B. If you plan to make multiple entries over the period of time up to
the closing date, it is recommended that you pay your entry fees as you
enter and not as a total in advance.
Conditions of entry - Stories must be of erotic flash fiction of up to
250 words maximum. You have freedom as to the subject matter, subject
to these restrictions;
No rape,
no consent-after-the-act,
no bestiality, necrophilia, hate, racism, under age sex, or submissions
of an otherwise offensive nature,
and nothing that could be construed as breach of any kind of copyright.
The editor's decision will be final as to what entries are, or are not,
suitable. Refunds will not be made for unsuitable entries. The onus is
upon you, the author, to submit in good erotic taste.
Submissions can be original work or previously published, but bear the
following in mind;
All the prize winning stories will be published on Logical-Lust in a
special contest feature. You must therefore own the copyright or be
free to publish your work in another source. If you don't own the
copyright to a story or don't have permission, even if you wrote it, do
NOT submit it as an entry. You will have to state whether your entries
are original or currently published, and be assured - published
material that reaches the short list for final decisions will be
checked out by us for it's validity for the contest.
Publishing of prize winners. By entering the contest you agree to have
your story published in Logical-Lust if it is one of the prize winners.
Only the contest prize winning stories will be featured on
Logical-Lust.
Original material. Logical-Lust will take First, but not Exclusive,
Publishing Rights to original prize winning stories so feel free to
boast about it if it helps to get it published elsewhere! We only
require that Logical-Lust is cited as the primary source of the story.
Previously published material. Logical-Lust will take Secondary
Publishing Rights and will cite the material's primary source if that
is a condition of publishing. Where possible we require to be cited as
a source for the material if published elsewhere.
Judging. Subject matter will not be a criteria judged upon. Writing
flash fiction is about the ability to write a full story - beginning,
middle, end, characters .., and of course erotica! - all within 250
words. Stories will be judged on this, plus spelling, grammar, and
literary worthiness. So make sure you edit your stories properly! Those
who assist in judging the entries will only be sent the story, and not
the author's name, to ensure judging is on a level playing field. The
result, and the prize winners, will be announced by 28th March 2004.
GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY! AND SPREAD THE WORD!! LET'S MAKE THIS CONTEST
HUGE!

At The Viceroy
By Ezwriter
2003 - Extasy Books -
www.extasybooks.com
ISBN # 1-55410-009-7
One of the things I have noticed the last several months is the
large number of erotic novels, regardless of type, that seem to be using a
location as a springboard for the erotica. By location, I mean that a number
of books seem to be exploring the idea that a building could have a legacy,
supernatural or otherwise, that causes erotic storylines. Often it seems
that the erotic elements of the past in the building are somehow merged in
the novel with erotic elements of modern day through the supernatural or
some other means but the building is the key to bringing it all together.
That idea is certainly true in this novel where the legacy of a
building comes to life in this offering from Extasy books, a division of
Zumaya. The past and the present both play a role in this well written
erotic novel with a touch of mystery.
A short prologue opens the book in 1946. Ruddy Myers and his
wife Vera are intimate and very much in love, at least from Ruddy's
perspective. He plans on building her a large house and calling it The
Viceroy. A home all of her own would mean the world to her and she promises
to herself to reward him sexually if he does build it.
Chapter One begins the modern day story in 2003 when Tom pulls
up to a large apartment building advertising an apartment for rent. The
building is a beautiful three story building, well maintained and
landscaped, and the available apartment is a one bedroom. The apartment is
available because the elderly tenant has had to move to a home. Tom tours
the apartment and unexplainably feels strongly attracted to it and after
signing a lease, moves in.
He soon begins to meet his neighbors and gradually learns the
history of the building. Nora lived in his apartment for over forty years
and before she moved in, Ruddy and his wife Vera occupied the same
apartment. As the chapters pass, his neighbors enlighten Tom about some
things from the past as well as each other, but they don't know everything.
They don't know about the secret passage hidden behind a closet
in Tom's apartment. They don't know that the passage has many branches, each
leading to a different apartment. His fellow tenants don't know that Tom can
move inside the walls and watch their activities, erotic or otherwise, as
they go about their lives. They don't know but Tom does as he has started
exploring the possibilities as he moves from apartment to apartment inside
the secret passage.
Tom has also found hidden in the secret passageway ledgers that
Ruddy wrote from his own watching activities after he built the building.
Not only did Ruddy detail the escapades of his neighbors, he also might have
explained why he suddenly vanished. While Tom watches his neighbor's sexual
activities as well as occasionally participating, he also begins to read the
ledgers in order to satisfy his own curiosity and answer the one question no
one seems to be able to answer-why did Ruddy vanish.
This is a well-written erotic novel featuring a wide range of
intriguing characters and multiple sexual possibilities. Like other Extasy
titles I have reviewed, the work is technically flawless and the read, while
not intense, is satisfying. Limits are occasionally pushed with the
characters, but nothing really graphic or extremely hard-core is done which
makes this a great couples-type read. For folks who want a hint of mystery
blended into their erotica, this one would also work.

--- Pseudonyms ---
--- By Abe Anana ---
====================================
Pseudonyms: A fictitious name, esp. one assumed by an author; pen name.
Gotta love those pseudonyms: especially the spelling. Is pseudonym a pseudonym
for sudonim? Sounds like a medicine of sorts does it not? Take one teaspoon of
"pseudonym" and call me; or someone else, in the morning. If my real name were
George Pseudonym, would that be my real name? Or a name given to me by folks
who were not really my parents? If I ever have more kids, and one is a girl, I
think I will name her Pseu. That way, if I have to yell, "Who do you think you
are!" she truly would not know or could say any name and therefore might not be
lying to me.
Pseudonyms are popular words for some of my friends. Some of them never get my
name right, especially if they are mad at me. Why, just the other day, my truck
broke down again and I thought of plenty of pseudonyms for it. It didn't seem to
hurt it any, but it still didn't work.
Pseudonyms are also good for helping authors bring stories to fruition by
letting them name people, places or things the way others may not think of;
making their stories a little more unique. You know how it is trying to think of
new ways to describe male and female body parts. I think with the next story I
write, I'll just use the word "tingy" as a pseudonym each time I have to
describe one, like; "He stuck his tingy in her tingy and massaged her other two
tingies until their tingies became one". I could name it "The Night of the
Living Tingies".
Even if a name is filled with doubt or suspicion, it could still be a
pseudonym. Who says a pseudonym has to be the truth about someone? My first
pseudonym or pen name is M. T. Styles. It is funny, but does that mean I have no
style as in empty? Probably, but it was not meant to imply that. Styles is my
mom's maiden name. M is the first letter of one of my son's first names. T.
well, it just fit. Shame on you.
A pseudonym could also be a fictitious name used when a person performs a
particular political or social role. Such as "Mr. President". One would think
that would be a title instead, but not if something written was signed that way.
It would be his pseudonym, not his title. Alternatively, if I were to address
him at a press conference, would not "Mr. President" be his current pseudonym?
Time to go. I can hear my wife yelling pseudonyms again. "Oooo baby" was in
there and she said I had something she needed.

Terri Pray (www.terripray.com) had several great acceptances in the the last couple
of weeks; here are her emails...
...Just got word from Nocturnal Ooze, they've accepted a second suspense/horror piece of mine, again paying. Going in the March issue! Okay so it's not erotica, but I had one in Feb's issue, now March. Woohooo!
...I just got an email accepting a story for Justus Roux's site. The story is called Light Relaxation.
...Kinkygurl just accepted the premise of an ongoing weekly story from me. They have the first four sections already, and I'll begin work on the rest later this week. I'm stoked, this is the second acceptance from them. Thank you for your site, it's helped me find a lot of potential outlets for my venture into erotic writing.
... Pampered Pen has a story of mine up. They are a paying market; first issue is the one launched today.
...I'm also a contributor for the second month running to www.gothicrevue. That's non paying, but fun to write for.

Edo van Belkom has sold a short story "The Interview" to LEG SEX. The story
will be bylined under his Evan Hollander pseudonym. Also, March will see the
publication of his new novel, BLOOD ROAD, by Kensington books under their

Just wanted to send my thanks to you too. I sent off a story as a
result of seeing a call for submission in your newsletter. As a
result, my story is to be included in an anthology of Cowboy
Erotica. It's my first ever acceptance, so I am quite excited as I
only started seriously writing again this past August.
Thanks again for your great and informative newsletter!
