Includes Paying Markets! By Katy Terrega This e-book has EVERYTHING the aspiring porn writer needs to know! Click on http://www.katyterrega.com/dirtyjob.html for chapter headings and excerpts. Or order here - http://www.KatyTerrega.com/orderebook.html ========================================= Yet another computer fiasco at my house in the last two weeks... My email died less than an hour after I got the last newsletter sent out. Unfortunately it didn't return until ten days (and about 6 hours of very frustrating technical support) later. That was a drag, but not as big of a drag as discovering that all of the business and personal email that had been sent to me in that 10 days was lost. Now that hurt! What it means for the newsletter is that anything y'all sent to me in the last two weeks (specifically from the 5th to the 14th) is gone. Goings On, answers to the call from a reader, requests for info...all gone. Sigh. So to all of you who've tried to communicate with me in the last 2 weeks, so sorry! Go ahead and email me again and I'll get back to you as I get caught up. Due to the email trouble, this issue's a little shorter than the others but we've got Kevin Tipple's book review, a first-sale story from a reader and some great markets. No Goings On for this issue, instead you can read the press release for "Guilty Pleasures: True Tales Of Erotic Indulgence." As always, enjoy this issue and please keep in touch! Trailer Trash
For me, something presented and published under the erotica label must generate some arousal in the reader. Simply writing a graphic, sexually detailed scene where characters commit a sexual act with all the usual grunts and groans won’t do it. While this novel (billed as erotica by the publisher) fails miserably in that regard, it does work on other levels. Jay Hughes has tried to blend graphic sexual writing with a strange science fiction type story and overall it works. While very clearly not erotic, it does work on a science fiction level with shades of the popular Twilight Zone or Outer Limits thrown in. Even though it is not erotica, it is still worth reading and learning from as you work to improve your writing. This strange novel is less erotic and more supernatural in its story. It explores the nature of being human and our relationship to the possible unseen universe around us. In so doing, it offers up a vision of reality different from the every day in that this is a place where almost everything is not what it appears to be on the surface. The novel opens with Sheriff Jim Lawrence patrolling Ravenswood Mobile Estates. Ravenswood is a run down trailer park full of undesirables in one form or another located outside the small town of Hedgepath. Like small towns everywhere, the residents know everybody else’s business and are scornful of those that call Ravenswood home. On this night, the search for Chucky Waters has brought the Sheriff there and he needs to bring him in. Jim and his small number of deputies surround the trailer of MayLea. MayLea is Chucky’s girlfriend and she could be a hostage. Another resident of the park, Lisa Lewis, wanders over to the Sheriff and offers her assistance with getting Chucky out safely for all concerned. She does so and soon Chucky is under arrest and on his way to jail in Hedgepath. Lisa wants an reward from the Sheriff and as her reward wants to sample some police meat. It has been awhile for Jim and so he agrees, until he sees the condition of the inside of her trailer. If that wasn’t bad enough, Lisa seems to be just a little bit crazy. Then, the idea loses its appeal. “Lawrence shook his head hard. Not only was trailer trash a ton of trouble, but this one had a loose screw. Fucking Lisa Lewis was looking less and less appealing with each sentence that came out of her mouth. But she did have those pretty tits.” Swayed, Jim is interested again, but before things get going MayLea crashes the party and makes Jim uncomfortable all over again. He eventually leaves, while conflicted over his desires for her and what others will think. The internal conflict slowly gets worse as Jim becomes obsessed with her. Not only is there a physical attraction between them, but also there is the issue of the child in her trailer. Her reactions to it are not normal and she constantly refers to the baby as something from “them” and that it has no gender. This leads Jim into questioning just who or what Lisa is and how she fits into his life as well as her fate for the mysterious forces at work through her. It rapidly becomes clear that those forces are beyond his knowledge and every answer raises more and more intriguing questions. This is one of those stories where to explain anymore would just give away the whole book and destroy the point of reading it. When I write my reviews, no matter whether they are adult or mainstream, I always avoid giving away too much because I have read far too many reviews that do give away the whole thing and just ruin the book. So, hopefully, I have given you just enough to interest you in the work and not diminish it in any way. As you work to improve your writing skills, whether you will use them for erotica or for some other type of writing, please remember that you can learn something from almost any published writing. Learning does not only happen in the context of erotica. While this novel is not erotica in my opinion, it is an interesting science fiction story. It portrays a world that appears to not be our own—or is it? You won’t look at a trailer park the same way ever again.

=========================================== Once up a time,
But when she was finally grown,
That’s my story right there. I’d always wanted to be a writer. I just never pictured myself writing erotica. My first published story was a surprise. After being encouraged by a friend, I submitted an erotic short story to ‘Australian Women’s Forum’ magazine for their year 2000 competition. I didn’t end up winning, that goes without saying since it was my first manuscript, but I got a phone call a month later to say that they wanted to publish my story in a special sex edition. So I jumped at the chance to see my (pen)name in print. The magazine finally arrived in the mail, along with my cheque. And next to my story were blurry artistic pictures of naked body parts and other ambiguously sexual images. ‘Wow! I can justify it as art,’ I thought! Initially, I was a little disappointed that the editing was so harsh, but in retrospect, I know now that there is no way that my story could have escaped the censors unscathed. Seeing the magazine in newsagencies was a thrill, the cover all pretty, pink and inviting like candy. Since the magazine wasn’t shrouded in plastic to hide the contents, I wondered if I could get away with leaving each magazine on the shelf open to my story. Or maybe I could just appear engrossed in it and someone would notice and read over my shoulder. But I was too chicken! Oh well, maybe next time. My advice, to anyone entering an erotic story competition or submitting a story to a porn market for the first time, is to go for it. You could end up having a wonderful surprise too. And I guess you could say that in the end I did get to write about fairytale princesses - even if they are princesses of porn! Chloe Welles =========================================== I write speculative erotica (mostly fantasy, but some science fiction). I've had a few acceptances, but on the whole it's been very hard to find markets for these stories--the sf/f magazines don't want anything sexually explicit, and many of the erotic magazines don't want any genre work. I know about Circlet Press, but are there any magazines out there, in print or on the web, that would welcome (or at least consider!) this kind of work? Thanks, Renee Katy sez: I know that I've listed plenty of these markets over the last year but since I don't categorize them by subject, I wasn't able to help this reader. But I know a lot of you all write for these kinds of markets. So if you'll please email your markets to me I'll get them out to her (and in subsequent issues of the newsletter as well.) Renee, would you email me again so that I'm sure to have your address? Thanks! ===========================================

I'm looking for essays/articles that will inspire and/or instruct other porn writers. Success stories, how to break into certain markets, unique views on the genre, etc. Around 800 words is good, although I'm flexible. I'd love articles on specific markets. There are so many sub-genres of porn and it's hard to know the subtleties of each. If you've got a specialty, from BDSM to Watersports to Leg Sex to Amputeeism, feel free to share your knowledge. You can either suggest a topic (query) or send something whole. I'll get back to you within a week as to whether or not I'll be able to use it.
