What a crazy couple of weeks!

At various times, and continuing up to now, all three of my email addresses (one personal and two business) were down! They were (and still are in some cases) bouncing like crazy. I am in the process of switching servers and hope to have all resolved soon, but until then, hope you'll bear with me. If I haven't replied to you I either never received your email or it's in my reply rotation as I juggle the three accounts. Go ahead and resend it till I answer you, just please be patient!

Plus it snowed again which is neither here nor there but I wanted to share. Good thing I hadn't planted the garden yet 'cause it was a doozy (is that how you spell doozy?) I saved the poppies but I'm thinking the apple tree (it's a baby, we got eight tiny apples last year) might have frozen it's little flowers off...

I'm excited about my new compilation ebook of AbsoluteWrite columns! Porn 101: 12 Essays On The Writing Of Porn And Erotica debuts today and I have to say that writing these essays was almost as fun as writing the good stuff. I've learned a lot writing this column and hope to continue to do so for a long time. You can find excerpts and info at http://www.KatyTerrega.com/Porn101.html.

Once again, we've got a lot of good stuff for you this issue. Two (count 'em) articles: "Cashing In On A Current Trend In Gay Male Erotica" by Sam R. Pershad plus "Things I Learned From Writing Porn" by John R. Platt. Lancelot Knight, a widely published porn writer, wrote about his pen name experiences in Pen Name Musings. I've got a couple of market listings and one great Goings On (congrats Edo von Belkom!) Actually, there may be more Goings On but what with the current state of my email I can't be sure. If I missed yours, send it on out!

As always, enjoy the newsletter and keep in touch!

--- Cashing In On A Current Trend In Gay Male Erotica ---
--- by Sam R. Pershad ---
(former gay bio-boy, current male-to-female transsexual and always a diva)
===========================================

Intergenerational sex between recently legal-age youth and firm prime-aged men dates back in Western civilization to the ancient Greek philosophers shamelessly seducing their agile students. These men and boys had some sexy toga parties over the centuries. Twentysomething studs, sweet and obedient, eager for strong older men with loving but disciplinary hands.

Millions of men across North America keep themselves up late at night playing this scene over in their heads, sometimes with the aid of similarly themed erotic novels, porn movies and magazines. Gay porn publications with wide, lucrative readerships, such as the U.S.-based periodical Handjobs, devote entire issues to daddy-son/younger-older men stories (see Handjobs, "Daddy-Son," Summer 2000, website- www.handjobs.com).

And in the new millenium, gay urban professional silver foxes who work out twice a week have begun fancying themselves renaissance men, modern, accomplished, creative people in search of buff, fresh-faced apprentices. The market for daddy-son gay porn is making one of its biggest comebacks ever.

So how do creative, progressive erotica writers tap into this resurgence of daddy-son based gay porn? Well, I am a 22 year old pre- operative transsexual woman, and former gay man, and I consider myself somewhat of a student of older men. Having had some first-hand experience in the daddy-son world, as well as having read and written a variety of intergenerational gay male porn, I can provide you with a few quick trixx of the trade:

1. Setting the Scene, Casting the Roles

When writing any compelling piece of role play-themed erotica, crafting a well chosen setting is crucial. Intergenerational gay male porn often infuses erotic dominant/submissive role play into otherwise "innocent" situations: young cute student charms virile professor, shirtless farmhand's rippling muscles entice the wealthy overseer, ruggedly attractive young criminal takes it rough from an older officer of the law, and so forth.

Many older gay male readers with dominant-themed desires gravitate towards stories of experienced daddies plying the innocence away from supple, sexy youth. However, some daddies are fond of rebellious sons, so we also see porn featuring a young hot well hung guy with an arrogant grin on his face performing a taunting striptease for an older admirer.

Some rebel boys ending up taking their punishment from daddy, but others switch the role play, acting as dominant young tops towards submissive older men. Witness the much-masturbated-to scenes of the young, "straight looking" hustler spreading the legs of an older bottom, or of the macho college jock who knows his older male coach wants him to... well, why you don't finish the story, and then sell it?

Some daddy-son gay porn develops from more specifically S/M centered authors and readers. For more information on how to write S/M scenes, you should check out some S/M erotic writing sites and your local queer bookstore (if you're lucky enough to live near one), or if you're already an S/M practitioner in your personal life, draw from experience!

2. More Than Mechanics

When writing intergenerational sex scenes, continue to keep the roles and setting in mind. Show how excited and erotically fearful the sexually inexperienced professor felt when, for instance, "Johnny's five o'clock shadow brushed roughly against the professor's trembling inner thighs as the youth's full moist lips lowered onto the older man's hardening cock." Except don't overuse adjectives like "erotically fearful"- SHOW, DON'T TELL.

Keep setting in mind as well as roles. Readers may be vaguely turned on by a generic story about a 19 year old jock getting plowed. But what about a scene in which football star Ricky finds himself stretched naked over the hood of his father's red sports car in the empty campus parking lot, Ricky's head lightly smacking against the windshield as his buff older coach lifts his legs apart and... can you think of what to write next to describe how the coach congratulates Ricky on a good season? Also, notice how, thanks partly to the sports car, Ricky transforms from average kid to hot bad boy who gets a roughly, sexually expressed vote of confidence from his mentor. Treasure your props.

3. Try Something New

Please don't feel that, as a potential or current writer of gay male porn, you for some reason have to limit yourself to scenes and roles similar to the ones described above. While some of the situations we've reviewed here are truly timeless classics, why not innovate? Originality sells. Queer men, including biological men and transsexual female-to-male men, like imaginative and concisely narrated erotica. And, on the transsexual note, I hope more transsexual female-to-male queer boys get access to good editors and publishers.

So, perhaps I've seduced you into exploring the world of writing older-younger gay male pornography. If so, stay tuned for my e-book debut in January 2002-Writing Erotic Role Play Scenes. For updates about where and when my writing will be featured next, and when my web site will launch, please send your e-mail address to: young_urban_writer@excite.com ... and remember to keep writing!

--- Things I Learned From Writing Porn ---
---By John R. Platt ---
================================

There are approximately 827 words and phrases that can be used to describe human genitalia...and your spell-checker knows almost none of them.

Writing without a byline can be liberating...though it does cut down on your useable clips.

Millions of people buy porn... but no one will ever admit to reading your story.

There's no shame in visiting the newsstand or convenience store to buy sample copies of porn magazines... as long as the store is at least 20 miles away from where you live or work.

Researching new positions can be fun...as long as you are in *really* good shape.

To create variety in your work, you need to be "up" on the latest toys and kinks... even if they don't get you "up" in return.

You can call your writing erotica, smut, porn or whatever you'd like...but to everyone who doesn't like it, it's just "porn," and to those who do like it, it's just fun.

Writing about sex is the safest sex there is...except for abstaining from writing about sex, which really isn't apropos to this discussion.

Your parents are much more understanding than you think...but not *that* understanding.

--- Pen Name Musings ---
--- From Lancelot Knight ---
=======================================

I enjoyed Ms. Lightfoot's article on pen names. I've used dozens of them myself. I might add just one thing about checking accounts. What I did was head up the story with my pen name. For example, the title might be "She Who Must Be Obeyed." Then I would put "by" and below that "Cindy Silk" - a name I actually used once.

On the first page, where I put such information as my address, telephone number, Social Security Number, e-mail address, etc., I would put this: Lancelot Knight (writing as Cindy Silk), then my street address and City, etc., in the upper left hand corner.

The editor then knows you want to use the pen name, and the accounting office knows to make out the check to the real you. As I said, I did this hundreds of times, and never once ran into a problem.

I used to live in a small town, and I certainly didn't want my local banker to know that I was the King of Porn. It can make for some--umm--sticky issues. Actually, my bigger issue was sometimes the publisher would write on the check what the payment was for. If they just wrote "Editorial Material", then no problem. But if it was for "Sarah Sucks Cincinnati", it could have caused some problems. But I guess no one ever looked at it, for no one ever raised the issue to me, let alone raised any eyebrows.

===========================================

Send Me Your Stories And Ideas!

I'm looking for essays/articles that will inspire and/or instruct other porn writers. Success stories, how to break into certain markets, unique views on the genre, etc. Around 800 words is good, although I'm flexible.

I'd love articles on specific markets. There are so many sub-genres of porn and it's hard to know the subtleties of each. If you've got a specialty, from BDSM to Watersports to Leg Sex to Amputeeism, feel free to share your knowledge.

You can either suggest a topic (query) or send something whole. I'll get back to you within a week as to whether or not I'll be able to use it.

Right now I'm paying with a copy of the updated It's A Dirty Job...(plus credits) but as SOON as this site is self-supporting I'll be able to offer some cash.
